Orion Harriers Cross Country Race Report

On Saturday 14 October pupils from Oaklands School took part in the Orion Harriers Cross Country race at Chingford Plains.

A team of 16 pupils turned up accompanied by their very supportive parents eagerly awaiting the start of the 1 mile race. The conditions were perfect for running with mild temperatures and clear skies, although the terrain appeared treacherous and challenging. This didn’t deter our runners and they all got off to good starts managing not to fall over in the herd of a packed group of runners.

The girls did fantastically well and achieved a great team score with Francesca, Emmy and Maya finishing in 21st, 36th and 38th place respectively. Amber, competing in her first cross country race for the school, also finished extremely well in 61st place. Considering there were roughly 300 girls taking part they all did amazingly well and should be very proud of their achievements.

The boys engaged in a team huddle before commencing their race and showed their solidarity by running together for the majority of the race, helping each other over the line. In a strong field of runners they performed admirably and did themselves and the school proud.

A huge thank you to all the pupils and their parents for turning up on a Saturday and giving up their free time for the school.
