Sports

At Oaklands we pride ourselves on the physical development of our pupils and we provide a wide range of opportunities and activities for them.

Physical Education is taught throughout the School by PE specialists. Our Early Years and Key Stage 1 pupils are taught in mixed classes and concentrate on educational dance, acquiring and developing eye-hand coordination skills in games including football, and movement and adaptability on gymnastic apparatus.

In Key Stage 2, pupils develop these skills further by swimming, playing hockey and netball, dancing and doing gymnastics, athletics and short tennis. They participate in inter-house matches in hockey and netball and enter local competitions in a wide range of sports: athletics, cross country, dance, netball and swimming.

Year 3 pupils and above attend a weekly swimming lesson at our local swimming pool throughout the year. We hold an annual Swimming Gala and Sports Day in which the children compete for their houses and various trophies. Dance is taught throughout the school by specialist dance teachers. Our older pupils regularly compete in the Epping Forest Dance Festival and other dance competitions and we hold our own Annual Dance Display at school during the Summer Term.
