Year 6 were fortunate enough to have a very special visitor recently. We have been studying World War 2 and were covering the topic of Evacuees. Mrs Booth’s dad, Mr Joslin, spent an afternoon with us telling us all about how he was an evacuee during World War 2.
He described many experiences and recalled many facts, talking about the air-raid sirens, having to blackout the family home’s windows, spending time in the Anderson shelter and told us that his father was an air-raid warden, which at the time was a huge responsibility. He brought in many artefacts including a ration book, photographs and a replica gas mask. Year 6 really enjoyed the visit and we asked him many interesting questions that he willingly answered. A truly fantastic history lesson!
