Year 1 trip to Mountfitchet Castle

Year One children had an exciting adventure when they visited Mountfitchet Castle at Stansted, as part of their Humanities topic: Castles and Knights. The children were able to identify lots of different features of the castle that they had previously learnt about back in the classroom and could experience first-hand what life would have been like living in the Motte and Bailey castle during William the Conqueror’s reign. The children were interested in the paintings that adorned the walls of the Baron’s home and noticed how similar they looked to the images we had seen in the news recently of the Bayeux Tapestry. There were lots of animals roaming freely (some more curious than others!) and the children enjoyed seeing them up-close. Of course, the highlights of the day were eating our packed lunches and seeing the Norman toilet!
