Parents' Association

Why does Oaklands have a Parents’ Association?

Oaklands Parents’ Association (OPA) is here to enhance every child’s experience at school by giving them a little extra. We raise money to provide additional resources that make your child’s time at school fun and give pupils, teachers and parents a sense of pride of being a part of the Oaklands community.

What do we do?

Oaklands has a particularly strong and active Parents’ Association. The elected committee organises a wide variety of social events for school families, such as:

  • Children’s Discos

  • Movie Nights

  • Fireworks Display

  • Summer Fete

  • Biannually Summer Ball

What do we spend our money on?

As well as being great fun, the events raise funds that help to pay for activities such as Christmas parties for the children and visits from the Easter Bunny. The OPA also helps to purchase equipment for the school, for example the Adventure Playground, playground equipment, a School Mini Bus, which is used to take children to concerts, sports fixtures and events. The OPA were also recently able to purchase 24 Apple iPad Air 2 36GB tablets, along with cases and an Apple Mac mini for the pupils to make use of in class. This has been a long-running project and all of the children will be able to make use of and benefit from.

How can you become involved?

The OPA prides itself on making new families feel a welcome part of our school. This is a voluntary organisation that relies on families for support, and also to help to run the events. All parents are encouraged to join the OPA and fresh ideas are always welcomed.

We want you to become involved; below are just a few examples of how you can support OPA’s fundraising activities:

  • Attend organised fund raising events that take place throughout the year; they are a fun and informal way of meeting other parents and being a part of the Oaklands community.

  • Provide uniform items that your child has outgrown for the second hand uniform sales. The sale of these items raises money for the school.

  • Volunteer to help with the fundraising events, run a stall or provide items to sell or raffle.

The Oak-Tree Group

From time to time, all four Oak-Tree schools’ Parents’ Associations join together for major events. We recently hosted a firework display for over  1000  people and held a highly-successful black tie Summer Ball for all parents with children at the four schools.
