Year 4 English Class

This week in English, the children have been diving into the world of persuasive writing and debates. To help them understand how to structure a strong argument, we explored the question linked to our class text:
“Should Ivan go and decide his own fate, or should he stay and remain safe?”

Working in small groups, the children prepared thoughtful arguments for both sides of the discussion. They considered reasons, evidence and how to communicate their ideas clearly. They then brought everything together in an exciting whole‑class debate, where one child took the “hot seat” and responded to questions and challenges from their peers.

It was fantastic to see how passionate, confident and respectful the children were during the activity. Their speaking and listening skills are continuing to grow and they showed brilliant teamwork throughout.

Year 4 are looking forward to building on these persuasive skills in the coming weeks!
