Year 4 Develop Confident Debating Skills Through The Ice Palace

Year 4 have been diving deeper into the story of The Ice Palace and using it as a springboard to develop their debating skills. The children have been exploring the key dilemma faced by the main character, Ivan: Should he continue in his dangerous search for his missing brother, or should he turn back?

In class discussions, pupils have worked together to build thoughtful arguments on both sides. They have been learning how to express their opinions clearly, listen respectfully to others, and use evidence from the text to support their ideas. Many children highlighted Ivan’s bravery and determination, while others raised concerns about the risks he faces alone in the frozen landscape.
