Chinese New Year in EYFS

Our Early Years classes enjoyed a vibrant and memorable celebration of Chinese New Year.

In Lower Kindergarten, the classroom was transformed for imaginative role play. Children delighted in dressing up in traditional Chinese outfits and immersing themselves in a Chinese restaurant set-up, taking orders and serving delicious “meals” to their friends. The celebrations continued in their music lesson, where pupils took part in their very own dragon dance. With children drumming enthusiastically as the dragon made its way around the grounds.

Upper Kindergarten jumped into the festivities with a special themed food tasting experience. Pupils sampled noodles, rice, prawn crackers and spring rolls, exploring new flavours and textures. The noodles were a particular favourite, with many children asking for seconds! Smiles filled the room as they tucked into the delicious dishes and shared their thoughts on the different tastes.

Upper Kindergarten pupils had also helped decorate with beautiful Year of the Horse pictures, proudly hanging up in the room. They also tried their hand at Chinese writing, carefully using black paint and brushes to form characters, resulting in wonderful classroom display.

It was a great way for our younger children to explore another culture whilst encouraging curiosity and creativity.
