Year 1 trip to Mountfitchet Castle
Year 1 had a fantastic day out at Mountfitchet Castle in Stansted, as part of their ‘Castles’ topic. They were able to identify lots of features of a Motte and Bailey castle that we had been learning about in class, such as the Portcullis, the Keep, battlements and arrow slits.
The children could see where there would have once been a moat around the castle walls to help deter enemy invasions. There were lots of friendly animals such as chickens, ducks, goats and deer with their young.
Pupils loved trying on all the armour, practising our aim at the slingshot and spotting all the flags and shields around the grounds. The highlight of the trip was seeing the medieval toilet (so gross) and of course, the picnic lunch! The children behaved impeccably and the staff were proud to be out with them.
