ISA Boys & Girls Football vs The Gower School

On Friday 7 November, Oaklands School took on The Gower School in Islington in the next round of U11 ISA Boys/Girls Football fixtures.

The boys played a very physical and tough battle, and were dominant in the first 10mins, spraying the ball around beautifully, playing the right way without any long balls forward. Their keeper pulled off some fine saves, and we were so unlucky not to be in the lead. They then scored 3 quick goals following long punts down field, and we were a bit naïve in not picking up spare players in attacking areas. 3-0 down, but the boys have fight and belief. We got 2 great goals back through Thiaan and Jimmy, and were back in the game. 3-2!! We kept pushing forward looking for that deserved equaliser and winner, but couldn’t quite get the final pass or shot off. They scored another 2 goals with our players up the pitch searching for goals, and somehow lost the game 5-2.

The girls were involved in a very 1-sided game against The Gower School, and mainly camped in their half, playing some lovely football. Poppy got on the scoresheet with a wonderful goal early on, and we thought we would go on and score more. It wasn’t to be, but not through a lack of trying. They are beginning to understand each other’s positions and pass through the opposition, developing their game play more and more. They are now top of the table after 2 wins out of 2, so onwards and upwards!
