6M visit Loughton War Memorial

Year 6 braved the cold to visit the war memorial in Loughton. The children had the experience of what it would have been like to be an evacuee during World War 2.  They researched different soldiers that were from the Loughton/ Epping area and made a poppy for each one, and left these poppies at the site to remember the soldiers. Well-being prefects read a poem and the children held a minutes silence.  Year 6 returned to school and made and ate a jam sandwich wrapped in parchment paper and secured with string. Each child shared their belongings with the rest of the class and explained why that item would have been their choice to take, had they been an evacuee during WWII. Year 6 had taken great care with their outfits too, and really looked the part with their gas mask boxes. They certainly were transported back in time to 1939!
