ICT at Key Stage 2

Oaklands is fortunate to have a computer suite with the latest in multi-media computers and peripherals. We have Fibre Optic fast connection to the Internet with reliable upload and download speeds. The pupils from Reception upwards are timetabled into the ICT suite as part of the development of their computer skills. As part of ICT each classroom has an interactive whiteboard for visual enhancement.

Our Year 3 to 6 build on their earlier knowledge by using more advanced software packages. They explore simulations, they use Word to combine text and graphics, they use sound software, databases and branching databases to classify information and to analyse data, they use Excel to make spreadsheets and Publisher to make leaflets, they create PowerPoint presentations, they use control and monitoring software to write computer programs, they create Web pages and continue to use the Internet for research and information purposes. Units are taught with cross curricular links whenever possible.

Development is assessed in the form of self-assessment forms at the end of each unit. We also assess more formally using the traffic light system. Verbal feedback is given regularly and lesson evaluations inform future planning.
