Creating Art Out of Nature

At Oaklands School we are so lucky to be surrounded by wonderful nature. The children really enjoy finding natural treasures like conkers, seeds and leaves. At lunchtime the children and teachers from 1J managed to collect a great array of colourful autumnal treasures.

On return to the classroom they looked at the work of inspirational British sculptor Andy Goldsworthy. He produces artwork using natural materials and most of his work is produced outside and is only temporary. He photographs the art and then allows it to remain in the natural environment and decay at its own rate. The children used the materials they found and were given the freedom to create whatever they wanted. Some children worked in groups and others preferred to work independently. The results are stunning and the children really enjoyed creating their masterpieces.
