On Wednesday 7 June, Year 3 visited Hadleigh Country Park where they were greeted by a Roman citizen. The first stop on the trip was exloring a typical Celtic roundhouse. It was a fantastic opportunity to be able to handle the artefacts inside.
Pupils then ground flour from wheat using a quern, it took all their muscles as the stones were very heavy. After that they excavated the sand pits looking for Roman treasure and became real archaeologists. Ms Gardner and Miss Creedon made fantastic Celt and Roman soldiers dressed up in armour, much to the delight of the pupils.
The children then got a chance to join the army too, making a tortoise formation with shields to successfully survive a barrage of enemy missiles. It was a lovely day and everyone learnt a great deal about life in Roman times. Our thanks to Mrs Sharp for joining us.
