The Gingerbread Man

Transition Woodpeckers thoroughly enjoyed learning about the story of the Gingerbread Man as part of our Traditional Tales Topic and have taken part in a range of activities related to the story. The children explored how to make a Gingerbread Man’s legs and arms move using split pins, this proved to be an excellent activity to promote their fine motor skills. The children especially enjoyed baking their own Gingerbread Men and noticing that they had escaped from the oven! Fortunately, the children had written a plan to capture them and the Gingerbread Men had left some clues. They also created ‘lost’ posters so they were soon found and eaten! All of the activities encouraged the children to retell the story during a Literacy session. We used the outdoor stage to act out the children’s written stories.
