On Thursday 9 May, seven of our Year 2 boys took part in the U7’s ISA 5-a-side football tournament at Barnet Power League. The pupils were understandably excited and were looking forward to playing against other schools.
After a team-talk about the rules and tactics, they were ready to start their first match. We were in a group with five other schools playing each other on three pitches with another group of six schools playing each other on three other pitches. It was really well organised and the boys all had plenty of game time to help develop their ability and skills.
We managed to win four games and narrowly lost the other one, but finished 2nd in our group by playing some outstanding football. In the quarter finals, we played Lyonsdown School and yet again the boys played superbly winning 6-0! The semi-final awaited us and we were up against Charterhouse Square School who we had lost against in our group game.
Our young troops showed great determination and won the match 2-0, earning themselves a place in the final against Annemount School.
They were up against a very strong school with some very good footballers who just had a bit too much ability for Oaklands. The team scored an unbelievable 39 goals during the tournament. Teddy Sheringham and Darryl Jaanmat were present to award all the schools with medals and a commemorative plaque for their efforts.
Well done to Jack, George, Ben, Ronnie, Nael, Enzo and Henry. You did the school and themselves very proud!!
