An Introduction to the Harp!

On Thursday 13 June, Reception and KS1 children experienced the magical music of a real harp! Mrs Bartels, who teaches Recorder at Oaklands, is a professional harpist and came to play and demonstrate the instrument.

The children were amazed by the size and sound of the harp and all had a go at playing a ‘glissando’ – running their finger along the many strings to make the familiar harp “swooshing” sound. The Reception children were particularly entranced as they have been reading Jack & the Beanstalk and wondered if Mrs Bartels’ harp would sing like Giant’s Golden Harp!
