On Wednesday 4 October the Oaklands U11’s Boy’s football team played their first friendly match of the school year.
St. Edmund’s School were kind enough to host us for the long trip down the A10 in Ware, Hertfordshire.
We had quite a few pupils making their first appearance for the school and the nerves were evident in the team before the match. After a warm-up and team talk the boys were under way getting attempting to get used to playing in their positions. It was clear from the onset that we were up against a very strong team who had some outstanding players in their midst.
None the less our boys were reluctant to just give up and ran their socks off to try and find some positives from a game that was slipping away from them. Among many positives was a super strike from Danny and a string of outstanding saves from Sydney to keep the score to a ‘respectable one’.
It’s back to the drawing board and the training pitch for our young troops as we still have many more matches to look forward to.
Well done boys!!
