KS1 and KS2 Gymnastics Festival

Every morning from Monday 27 until Thursday 30 November, girls from KS1 and KS2 took part in the Enfield Schools Gymnastics Festival.

After holding rehearsals at school for our eager gymnasts to showcase their talent, it was time for the team to perform their various routines.

Monday saw the turn of our Year 2 team consisting of Sienna, Jeslene, Annabel, Libby and Kristina. They held their nerve remarkably well beyond their years and can be proud of their achievements finishing in 13th place out of 20 schools.

Tuesday saw the turn of the Year 3/4 girls, with Ava, Millie, Riana, Chloe and Phoebe competing against 17 other schools. Their routines were faultless and they performed fantastically on the day. As the organisers announced the results, she said “in 1st place with 141.5 is Oak”… we were thinking ‘Wow! We’ve won!’ But she read out the lucky school as being Oakthorpe. None the less we did finish in 3rd place with a total of 140.5 which is a fantastic achievement.

Edmonton Leisure Centre was the venue for the Year 5/6 team on Wednesday. Vicky, Imogen, Francesca, Libby and Emmy had the task of performing a hard routine with lots of difficult elements involved. In a field of very strong schools they can take heart in producing some excellent gymnastics displays.

The Open Team competition on Thursday was made up of Maya, Hannah, Annabel, Lucy and Evie. They could choose their own elements to perform from a list of very difficult actions in the knowledge that they were up against other very talented gymnasts across other schools. With the help of ‘Oaky’ the Oaklands school mascot, they had a brief practice before commencing their individual routines. Under the watchful eyes of the judges, they showed their skills and performed honourably under testing conditions finishing in a respectful 8th place.

Thank you to the parents for getting the teams to school unusually early, the staff who assisted throughout the week and above all the pupils who, after weeks of rehearsals, practices and the performances showed why we enter these events. Oaklands School possesses some very talented individuals and it’s great to see them perform and experience competitions. We are very proud of them all!
