A sensory tray is an excellent opportunity for introducing new vocabulary and encouraging communication.
As part of our ‘Winter’ theme in Lower Kindergarten, this week’s sensory tray had a very chilly feel to it! We filled it with ice cubes and penguins! The children said the ice felt “Very cold” and some knew “Water turned to ice”, which is fantastic! Other wonderful comments included “Penguins like to slide on their bellies” and “Penguins don’t fly as they have arms, not wings”. We discovered that penguins do not “Live in a forest” but like swimming in the water and eating fish.
We talked about how water turns into ice when it gets very cold and melts when it gets warmer. Well done Lower Kindergarten!
