On Wednesday 3 July we held our annual Speech Day and Prize Giving, celebrating the many achievements and successes of the pupils throughout the year. The celebration took place in a marquee on the field, on yet another scorching hot day, which was packed with a large audience of family and friends.
The guest speaker this year was Miss Jessica Herbert who previously attended Oaklands from 1998 to 2007. She trained as a Dance teacher and has performed at well-known London venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Her Majesty’s Theatre. It was fantastic to hear about her life after Oaklands and the children found it very interesting.
As well as prize giving, the afternoon was filled with performances from our Years 1 to 6 pupils. The boys choir impressed the audience with their rendition of ‘Banuna’, ‘Big Bad Lad of the Ocean’ was performed by KS1, the KS2 girls sung a lovely rendition of ‘I’d rather be a Sparrow than a Snail’ and all the pupils sang ‘A Million Dreams’ as a finale. There were also reports about sports, charity work, expressive arts and from each year group which gave a great overview of the entire year.
A huge congratulations to all of our prize winners and to the pupils who were awarded with their new Roles of Responsibility for next year. You should all be very proud!
