In Year 5 Science, the pupils are learning about the planets and the solar system and so to compliment this topic, the class are exploring how space has inspired many composers to write some of the most famous and epic music we know. In the lesson they have listened to Holst’s Planet Suite and analysed the different ways instruments are used to create different effects and emotions. The pupils explored these elements of music using various tuned and untuned percussion instruments to create their own compositions. They then had an opportunity to play to each other and evaluate each other’s work.
