On an exceptionally hot and sunny Thursday, a cohort of seven Year 2 students embarked on a journey to Barnet PowerLeague to participate in the U7 ISA London North Football Championships.
They were assigned to the Champions League division, contending against five other schools. Despite losing one match 3-2, they emerged victorious in four others, amassing an impressive tally of 33 goals along the way, securing advancement to the knockout rounds.
In the Quarter Finals, they faced Howe Green House School, triumphing with a resounding 8-0 victory, thereby progressing to the semi-finals, where they encountered Gatehouse School, the sole victors over them in the group stage. Gatehouse School had consistently dominated this tournament for the past seven years, signaling a formidable challenge for the team. Nonetheless, they emerged triumphant with a 3-1 win, advancing to the final.
In the championship match, our exceptional team confronted Southbank International School in a closely contested battle, resulting in a 3-3 draw and leading to a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. Undeterred by the pressure, they exhibited remarkable composure, emerging as deserving victors. They proudly hoisted the trophy and returned to Oaklands in high spirits!
This achievement stands as a testament to the remarkable efforts of Brady, Noah, Denim, Ethan, Neysha, Mikey, and Alfie.
